The Farming Life

The world would completely cease to function without people working the land. The farming industry drives the world. Without local farmers, the nation and the world would soon find themselves completely helpless. Farming is a noble tradition that dates back thousands and thousands of years. It is how people survive and it moves the world’s economy. Each day farmers work to produce the crops and produce that fill our stomachs. The excess is traded to other countries so that people there have the chance for survival.

Farming is more than just planting seeds in the ground and hoping that they will mature and produce food. There is more to it than that. Agricultural research has helped develop plants that are more hardy and more resistant to diseases and bugs. When people first began to farm the land, they were at the mercy of wind erosion, crop failure and pests. Thanks to research and development these worries are far lessened for today’s farmers.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has a major hand in how farmers live and work. There are special grants set aside by the government that ensure that farmers will not go under if something were to happen to their crops. In the past, a failed crop could mean foreclosure on the farm and the farmer would have to give up his land. These days, if something disastrous occurs, then the government steps in and helps the farmer out during the hard times. Does this make things easier? Yes, to an extent but there is still a lot of hard work to do on a farm that no amount of money can cover.

If you are a farmer, then the world owes you a great deal of thanks. Farming is a difficult life that requires time and dedication. It is not just a summer hobby for most. Growing a garden in the backyard is vastly different than growing food and raising animals across thousands of acres of land. It is thanks to farmers and food and agriculture that the world can exist as it does today. Without the farmers the world would cease to exist.
